Two and a half hours to Pocatello

Church Pew Refinishing & Upholstery in Idaho

Eastern Idaho is closer to our shop than St. George is. Boise is a day's drive. The national firms that come up for this search mobilize from Wisconsin, North Carolina or New York.

Idaho has about 2,500 congregations, and dedicated pew restoration companies are scarce in the state. We are the nearest we know of, and Pocatello is two and a half hours up I-15.

Idaho's church buildings

The Snake River corridor and the Boise valley have more century-old sanctuaries than anyone has been serving.

About 2,500 congregations, and roughly half of them Latter-day Saint meetinghouses in the south and east — which, as in Utah, are maintained through the Church's Facilities Management groups rather than by the ward. The other half is what we are writing to: Catholic parishes in Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Boise, Episcopal and Presbyterian churches from the railroad years, Lutheran congregations across the Magic Valley, and the Baptist, Methodist and non-denominational churches in every county seat.

Boise alone has a Catholic cathedral finished in the 1920s and an Episcopal cathedral from the turn of the century, and the mining and railroad towns — Idaho City, Silver City, Wallace, Pocatello's old town — hold sanctuaries with original woodwork that has never had professional attention because nobody was within a thousand miles to give it.

One national firm has a project page for Boise. That is one job, once. We can be in Pocatello for a condition report on a Tuesday afternoon and home for dinner.

Eastern Idaho and the Magic Valley carry a small travel line. Boise and the Treasure Valley we pair with other work where we can, and we always tell you the number before the visit. Boise and the Treasure Valley →

What you get

The same job we do in Salt Lake, three hours up the road.

On-site refinishing so the pews never leave the building. Reupholstery with the foam spec written into the contract. The doors, the pulpit and the rails in the same trip. Half the room at a time so you never lose a Sunday.

In writing

Sunday. If your sanctuary is not service-ready by 6 a.m. Sunday, that week's labor is free. The carve-outs are written next to it: weather that closes the road, delays on the church's side, and events already on the calendar when we scheduled.

Ten years. If a seam opens, a finish lifts or a repair fails because of how we did the work, we come back and make it right. Transferable to whoever runs the building next.

The spec. What we quote is what goes in — foam, fabric and finish named in the contract, data sheets in your file.

Local questions

What churches here ask us.

Do you really come to Idaho?

Regularly. Pocatello and Idaho Falls are closer to our shop than the south end of our own state. Boise is a full day's drive and we schedule it in blocks so that the travel is shared across more than one church.

What does travel add to the price?

Travel is on the quote as its own line: the real cost of fuel, lodging and the days on the road, never buried in the per-foot rate. On a typical sanctuary it works out to a few percent of the job. A company mobilizing from North Carolina or New York is carrying the same cost across three times the distance and hiding it in the number.

Where we can pair your job with another in the region, the travel line drops, and we will tell you if waiting a month gets you that.

Is the condition report free if you have to drive out of state?

Yes. We will try to schedule it with other visits in your area, which can mean a short wait, and we will tell you the date before you agree to anything. If you would rather not wait, four photos and a pew count by email gets you a written range in two days, no drive required.

Our church is a meetinghouse. Can you help?

Meetinghouse maintenance runs through the Church's Facilities Management groups, and we are not going to pretend it does not. If your FM group is looking for a crew that works on site in the Intermountain West, we would like to be on the list — hello@bethelfinishworks.com reaches Shawn directly.

Start with the report, not the quote.

Two hours in your sanctuary, every pew photographed and graded, one section refinished while you watch, and a written three-tier budget. Free, no drive charge, and yours whether or not you hire us. Or email four photos and a pew count to hello@bethelfinishworks.com for a written range in two days.

What we do

The whole sanctuary, one trip.
